WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?
We supply nourishment for your mind, body and spirit. Fitness
isn't just jumping around to get the heart rate up or strength
training to increase muscle mass. It is also being refreshed
in the mind. Exercise lifts our seratonin levels, "the
happy hormones." certainly better than paying $100 to have
our heads examined and for the occasional dip in spirits, may
do the trick. Go for a walk when you feel depressed and
eat an apple. Get social and exercise with others, get advice,
some of it may be good - we have a lot of resources. Talk
to us.....and feel good about yourself.
MEMBERS - TELL YOUR
FRIENDS ABOUT US AND WHAT YOU ENJOY HERE. MINIMUM THREE
MONTH CONTRACTS at a discounted rate for your friend and a discount
for you, too. Help us Grow our Community of Women helping
Women.
Trying to lose weight?
Are you eating enough? Are you fueling your body before exercise
with a combination of protein and carbohydrate?
No body can effectively
utilize calories on an empty stomach. Eat something small
before you exercise to trigger the release of energy from your
system. Breakfast is important. It is very hard
for your body to draw the fuel it needs to exercise from a depleted
glycogen source.
If you can't stay away
from soda, at least stay away from cola drinks. Studies
have shown a correlation between cola and bone loss. Eliminating
soda altogether would be an even better idea because diet soda
has the same "sugar" effect on our bodies as regular
soda. Suffering from acid reflux? Are you using artificial
sweetners? Try eliminating the artificial sweetner to see
if it is causing your reflux.
Planning a family?
Start getting strong and toned now so your body is better able
to deal with the extra weight and stress on the body. Have
a safe, healthy pregnancy and baby. Sign up for a free e-mail
which tracks the weeks of your pregnancy for changes to yoru body
and the growing baby. Call 688-9355.
Obesity is an epidemic!!!!
Every extra pound of weight translates to 4 pounds of extra impact
on our knees and feet. We are now looking at a generation
of children who will not outlive their parents because lifespans
are shortening due to the dis-eases that result from obesity.
Research indicates that soon heart attacks will be striking 16-18
year olds The good news is that we have to eat to lose weight;
but we have to eat properly. 71% of men are overweight,
61% of women and 33% of children. Excess weight translates
into shortening life expectancy by 5 years. SLEEP DEPRIVATION
- too few hours can cause hormonal changes that lead to weight
gain. MORE MEDICATIONS - Antidepressants, anticonvulsants
and steroid hormones cause weight gain, either by water retention
or increased appetite. OLDER BIRTH MOMS - Studies
show an adolescent girl's risk of becoming obese increases by
14% for every five-year increment in maternal age. PRENATAL
INFLUENCES - Overweight moms and those with gestational diabetes
have been linked with bigger babies.
Metabolic Syndrome
- what is it? Do you have it? What can you do?
Various estimates show at least 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 8 children
have it. Key causes are overeating and inactivity.
The number of people over 40 rose by more than 60% over the past
10 years.
Large waistlines, diabetes,
high blood pressure and cholesterol account for $4 of every $10
spent on prescriptions. What to do? GET
MOVING NOW. DON'T PUT IT OFF, TAKE IT OFF.

YOGA IS COMPOSED OF
MANY LAYERS. EIGHT LIMBS FORM THE MAIN PRINCIPLES OF YOGA:
YAMA - UNIVERSAL ETHICS
NIYAMA - PERSONAL ETHICS
ASANA - POSTURE
PRANAYAMA - BREATH
PRATYAHARA - QUIETING
THE SENSES
DHARANA - INNER FOCUS,
CONCENTRATION
DHYANA - MEDITATION,
REFLECTION, OBSERVATION
SAMADHI -ABSORPTION
WITH WHOLE BEING, ABSOLUTE ENLIGHTENMENT
How can you incorporate
these "limbs" into your day, whether you are a student,
athlete, senior executive, stay-at-home mom, a multi-tasker?
Calcium is an important
mineral for our bodies. If we don't get enough from the food we
eat, calcium is leached from bones and teeth. Studies have
also shown it helps to shed pounds. Remember to add magnesium
and Vitamin D for proper absorption.
ARTHRITIS - Research
has demonstrated that a regular program involving cardiovascular
exercise and strength training lead to improvements in strength,
function and joint symptoms. Flexibility loss, muscle atrophy,
weakness, osteoporosis, pain, depression and fatigue responded
favorably to low-moderate intensity programs and helped with weight
loss.
